The History of Chelation Gout Therapy

Chelation gout therapy has been proven through research to be quite effective in battling conditions like gout. Chelation therapy is used to remove metals, like lead, from a person's body. There are many different forms of chelation therapy, including those that occur in the world of alternative therapy. However this treatment is administred, though, chelation gout therapy seems to be very effective in the fight against gout.

An Interesting History

Chelation gout therapy was first used after World War I. Many countries used poisonous gas during the course of warfare. One particularly nasty gas was called lewisite. British doctors were able to give soldiers exposed to this gas an organic compound called Dimercaprol, which contained high levels of sulfur. The compound reacted to the bad metals contained in the gas by capturing them and helping them to exit the body, leaving the soldier as undamaged as possible. As time went on, other chelating agents became known to doctors. In general, a chelating agent is anything that can bind with the the metals in the look and make them less susceptible to causing problems.

Chelation Gout Therapy Today

Before you can undergo chelation gout therapy, it is important to note that you must be in overall good health. Moreover, you must have gout caused by lead in your blood instead of gout caused by a family history of the disease or other factors. You can learn more about the kinds of things that cause gout at other articles on our site. If your body is heavily infested with lead, it is important to note that almost every system of the body can be damaged by it.

While chelation therapy for gout can help reverse some of this damage, if your condition has steadily worsened over time, the side effects of the treatments simply cannot be tolerated. There are a number of different ways you might get chelation therapy. Your doctor may suggest an intramuscular injection. He may give it to your intravenously. He may even give it to you in oral form.
