Avoiding Gout Causing Food



Gout is not curable, but it is controllable. There are certain things that you can do to in order to help control gout attacks. Gout causing food can be avoided if you are aware of which types of food to avoid. There are also different kinds of medications that can help to ease as well as to prevent gout attacks.

An excess of uric acid in the body and around the joint(s) is essentially the cause of gout. Limiting your intake of the following list of gout causing food will help to control gout attacks:

- Red Meats
- Organ Meats, such as liver and kidneys
- Some Shellfish
- Anchovies

Also, alcohol can increase the uric acid levels, so limiting alcohol consumption can help.

The following anti-inflammatories may be taken in order to help with the pain during gout attacks:



The following medications may be prescribed to help lower the uric acid levels:

- Allopurinol
- Probenecid

These medications, however, should not be started during a gout attack. They need to be started after a gout attack is completely over. Sudden lowering of uric acid causes a gout attack to start, so beginning one of these medications at the wrong time is not a good idea.

You can not get rid of gout completely, however you can do things to treat gout attacks as well as to prevent them from starting. You can limit or avoid gout causing food. You can take medication to help prevent gout attacks. You can also take medication that will help to relieve the pain during a gout attack.
